Machine, Tools, Processes and Practice (MFMCPR1)

TARGET AUDIENCE: Students, Academics, Industry Professionals, Employers, and Tech Enthusiasts

OVERVIEW: I took this class as a freshman in my third term. It’s a course where we have to present to the class about a particular machine operation and tools used in common machine shop processes. Know more about the syllabus in this link.

LEARNINGS and OPINIONS: As stated in the syllabus, this coursework is a supplementary to the lab courses that we are taking in regard to machine shop processes. I was particularly intrigued in many of the operations that were highlighted at this time but given the online setup, actual implementation and understanding of this course is not fully appreciated since I had to do simulations of the lathe machine through a phone app. Likewise, once F2F classes resumed, it was done in a rushed manner just to supplement what was lost…

Keep in mind, a unit in a private university like DLSU in the PH cost around 3k as of writing. Ballpark for 3 units is staggering 9K already. This course where I can learn this by myself in a youtube video ❌❌ is personally not a good way to spend my money especially me being conscious about my scholarship at this current time. Looking back, the curriculum is outdated and hoping that it gets better learning to consider in this changing times if this is really necessary to learn. As someone who grew fond of a specialization that will never touch or experience lathing operations in its career, this is alarming!! Harsh but its the truth. For those seeking opinion on this course, take attention on spending your time on other fruitful things.

What I did appreciate in this course is the knowledge of lathe processes, drilling processes, boring processes, shaping/planning/slotting process and grinding processes. Particular mentions on the anatomy of these machines like the head and tail stock were discussed and I was able to absorb it to an extent. I presented shaping operations which I have provided both my paper and my groups video below. Further relations should be checked on my LBYMF1C blog post. 😇

PS. Shoutout to my groupmates at the time; Marc and Quiz, hope you cool on me sharing our work!
