My journey to the regional stage of the Hult Prize 2021 with our project about repurposing food waste into fuel for cooking.

🎉 I’m happy to have represented De La Salle University in the regional stage of the Hult Prize 2021 with the theme “Food for Change.”

The Hult Prize is known as the “Nobel Prize for students,” challenging young leaders to solve the world’s most pressing issues through social entrepreneurship.

After securing 2nd place during the OnCampus round at DLSU, our team advanced to the regional competition, where I had the opportunity to pitch our innovation to experts and changemakers in the field.

💡 Team Lumbricina’s Project

Our idea focused on a compact digester system designed for residential and commercial settings to help users manage food waste efficiently.

👨‍🔬 My Role & Contributions:

  • Led the ideation and early-stage design of the digester tailored for operations with high food waste influx 🥬
  • Promoted proper waste segregation and the utilization of organic waste
  • Developed a business model canvas following the triple bottom line: People, Planet, and Profit 🌱
  • Conducted feasibility research on system design and functionality
  • Studied and aligned our solution with R.A. 9003 (Ecological Solid Waste Management Act) to ensure compliance and scalability in the Philippines 🇵🇭

This experience deepened my passion for sustainable systems and social innovation. Thank you for Doc Norbs for giving us the oppurtunity with the team; Sabina Ma for mentoring us along the way too! 🚀
