Management operations simulation - "Can You Dig It?"
My personal project for this engineering management course š
OVERVIEW:
The motivation for this project was that during the COVID lockdown, many have been doing home gardening as a form of personal activity. We want to provide "plantitos" and "plantitas" customized gradening plants for their various project needs.
BENEFIT AND USE:
This business simulation involved creating and managing a mock manufacturing company specializing in customized gardening pots.The simulation covered the full operational lifecycle, including:
Business Planning ā Defined mission, vision, and strategic goals focusing on sustainability, customization, and nationwide expansion.
Organizational Structure ā Designed a vertical functional departmental structure to ensure specialized focus on R&D, manufacturing, sales, and logistics.
Product & Process Design ā Developed standard and customized pot specifications with a factory layout optimized for efficient production and storage.
Operations & Inventory Management ā Implemented a periodic inventory control system with ABC classification (Grade A: Ceramic & Clay, Grade B: Polycarbonate) and integrated IT-based real-time inventory tracking.
Financial Analysis ā Calculated break-even point (6,156 units), prepared balance sheet and income statement, and proposed reinvestment strategies for growth.
LEARNINGS and OPINIONS:
As synthesis, I was able to learn Operations Efficiency; Demand & Capacity Alignment; Inventory Risk Management; Financial Decision-Making;
This was an introduction to operations management that We did as a freshman. This was further supplemented with the learnings on engineering economics, technopreneurship, and engineering production management. I believe that Iām able to apply this when I have a small business to attend to that does production in a small scale. Further down the line, Iām hoping that this can be applied in a real-world situation but for now, I have demonstrated here my capabilities to conduct simple business management as well as make this as a service for others when I presented a simple SWOT analysis of a partner organization for this course.

PS. Shoutout to Nic, Bryan and Juls who were my co-implements for this project :))
